Dressing your baby is one of the most fun parts of being a Mom! You definitely want to make the most of it before your babies get to the age where they want to pick their own outfits (not-so-fun for Mummy but hey, you’re raising an independent child, right?) While baby shopping is a whole lot of fun, the reality is - baby clothes are not very cheap! So how do you style your little fashionista while sticking to your budget? Here are a few tips that should help!

1. Stock up on the basics
Invest in some premium-quality basic baby clothes like bodysuits and leggings, in a range of light colours. You can then mix & match them to create a variety of outfit combinations and can also use them for layering. This may involve spending a little more money initially, but it is more practical in the long run. Check out our premium quality baby bodysuits for both boys and girls here

2. Track deals & discounts like a hawk
These days, most brands post updates about their latest deals & discounts to their social media pages. Keep an eye on them to snag great deals! If you don’t have time for that, simply sign up to be on their email lists. That way, you’ll receive an alert every time there’s a new deal.

3. There’s no shame in asking for gift cards
If your friends/family ask you what kind of gifts to buy for the baby, choose gift cards every time! This makes it easy for you to pick up the items you really need!

4. When in doubt, choose onesies
The onesie is the quintessential baby outfit for most occasions. It’s cozy, comfy and absolutely practical. Onesies are available in a range of colours, patterns and prints. They’re really easy to match with any outfit. For a girl, all you need to do is throw on a pair of leggings or a skirt to dress it up. For a boy, jeans or leggings work perfectly! You can even put on a few layers when the weather gets chilly. At Softsens, we have a range of adorable onesies that are perfect for everyday wear or even special occasions. 5. Don’t be afraid to buy larger sizes
You probably know this by now but babies grow at an alarming rate! Which means that today’s leggings will probably become tomorrow’s capris. To avoid this, think long-term when you go shopping. Buy leggings that are a tad bit longer and fold them at the bottom as your baby grows in length. An oversized top can double up as a dress for now and a top later on. Buy pants with comfortable stretchy waistbands if you buy larger sizes.

6. Matching sets are awesome and affordable
Instead of buying individual pieces of clothing, look for baby sets. The prices on these are always marked down. Check out our cute 3-piece baby sets here

7. Reuse & Recycle
Accept hand-me-downs from friends and relatives. Just as your own baby is outgrowing clothes at a lightning pace, their babies probably wore these clothes for a very short amount of time too. If you’re planning another baby soon, simply bundle up the clothes that your baby has outgrown and store them well for your next-in-line.

8. Pick organic cotton – it’s kinder on your pocket
One of the best things about Organic Cotton is that it is sturdier and more durable than conventional cotton. It does not break down as easily as regular cotton fibers which undergo chemical processes. In fact, organic cotton clothing can be washed ten times more than its conventional counterpart, which means you won’t need to shop as often, making it a more cost-effective alternative in the long run. All Softsens Apparel & Accessories are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, available here

9. Wait for end-of-season sales
This is the best time to buy clothing for your baby! You can get great deals at end-of-season sales and it’s even advisable to pick up a few items that your baby will fit into as they grow older.

10. Select accessories that match with everything
When it comes to accessories like baby caps, headbands or scarves, pick ones in basic colours that you can then match with all of your baby’s outfits. Choose accessories like bibs of good quality as you would be using them and washing them very frequently. Organic cotton and muslin cotton bibs should be preferred since they do not break down as easily as regular cotton and last longer. Click here to explore some of our baby accessories
